THE MUSTANGS ARE GOING TO STATE!

The mustangs will compete in the State Championship Meet which brings together the best 16 teams in Ohio. The Division 1 mustangs will race at 12:30 on Saturday November 1, at National Trail Raceway.

The SHS Boys Cross Country team defied the odds on Saturday at the Tiffin Regional meet. After finishing 4th with the final qualifying spot at last week's District meet, the team upset a host of schools this week at the Regional and finished in the Top 4 once again. This QUALIFIED THE TEAM TO THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW! There were several heroes for the Mustangs. Senior Grant Powers has led the team all year and qualified as an individual performer as well as a team runner. Senior Zach Zoloty ran his finest race of his career in stunning a lot of quality runners. Sophomore Jake Papish outran much of the competition as the team's third man. Sophomore Cameron Davis and seniors Tim Doyle, Phil Spronz, and Alex Ruch completed the masterpiece, as the Mustangs got 7 runners across the finish line before any other school got 7 in, including St. Ignatius who won the meet.

SHS SENIOR, NASH POTTER, SELECTED FOR BUCKEYE BOYS STATE PROGRAM

This past summer, Nash Potter was selected to participate in the American Legion’s Buckeye Boy’s State. He went to Bowling Green State University “not knowing what to expect” he admitted.  He ran for the position Ohio State Representative of House and won the nomination from the city of “Balser.”  He worked as committee leader of Veterans Affairs. I wore his suit to “work” everyday which lasted from about 7:30am-5:00pm every day.  Potter stated “I have never experienced such a sense of brotherhood on any other camp I’ve ever been too.  [The boys I met there] became a group of 30 best friends and I would do anything for any one of those guys.”

American Legion Buckeye Boys State is an eight-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio government.  Founded in 1936, Buckeye Boys State is the largest Boys State program in the nation with an attendance of over 1,200 young men annually, representing nearly 600 Ohio High Schools, several on-line High Schools, and the Home Schooled Community.

  • SHS - 1 Semi-Finalist National Merit

Posted by Dan Mott at 10/3/2014
    Jeffrey Miles

Congratulations to Jeffrey Miles as becoming a Semifinalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. and having an opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition. He is one of the 16,000 Semifinalists who have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition.  The nationwide pool of Semifinalist, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. National Merit semi-finalist means that he is among the very elite group in the country that have managed to score the highest on the PSAT.  This academically talented high school senior has an opportunity tocontinue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalist must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalist are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.  We are very proud of Jeffrey.
