2012 - 2013 Committees
COMMITTEES
AUDIT - Formed near the end of the school year to audit the treasurer's books during the early summer. Takes no more than a few hours at one sitting.
BOOK FAIR - Held to benefit the Media Center. One sale held in the Fall; another in Spring if agreed to by unit.
GIVING WEEK - Works in tandem with teacher organizer. Collects items donated by parents and staff members to creates baskets which are sold at two holiday concerts. Proceeds benefit needy Center families with grocery and department store gift cards for the holidays.
GRANTS - Review and approve grant money for educational requests made by the teachers. President and Treasurer also serve on this committee per Center PTA Standing Rules.
HEALTH & SAFETY - You can do as little or as much as you'd like with this committee. Put articles in the newsletter, on the PTA bulletin board in school or on the web site, organize a health fair, arrange guest speakers regarding health/safety issues at PTA meetings or for students (with school approval), pass along health and safety information that is distributed by PTA Council Health & Safety Chair.
LEGISLATION & BYLAWS - Meets to review our current bylaws and standing rules and present any revisions to the general membership for approval. Not as boring or as difficult as you think! Usually done in one meeting. Bylaws must be revised every three years to remain a PTA Unit in good standing.
MEMBERSHIP - Publicize and distribute membership forms, enter information into Just Between Friends system, distribute membership cards, create list of volunteers from info on membership forms.
MUSTANG BOWL - Works with staff and Albion Mustang Bowl Chair to create and distribute flyers and to coordinate parent volunteers who help with raffle and serving ice cream to students attending Albion vs. Center football and volleyball games in October. A great committee for parents of a football or volleyball player!
NOMINATING - Meets in late winter to recruit members and present slate of offices for the following year's executive board.
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK - Plans staff appreciation events for the first week of May.
STAFF HOLIDAY LUNCHEON - Plans the holiday luncheon for staff members in December.
WALK-A-THON - Organize with the staff to benefit the technology fund.
WAYS & MEANS (FUNDRAISING) - Plan fundraising events that are held during the school year. Find chairs for each event.
YARD SIGNS - Organizes the sale of yard signs that recognize students participating in school activities, clubs, or athletics
REPRESENTATIVES
ACADEMIC RECOGNITION - Works with staff (team leaders) as a liaison to PTA for planning academic awards and events.
CITIZENS TEXTBOOK REVIEW - Serve as needed on a committee to review student textbooks before purchase by the school district. (If no book purchases are planned, you may not be called during the year.)
DARE - Serve as a liaison between Center and the Strongsville Police DARE Advisor and DARE Officer. Put up posters for DARE activities; recruit chaperones for DARE Halloween and Eighth Grade Graduation dances.
RED RIBBON WEEK - Work with guidance counselors to plan activities related to Red Ribbon Week in October.
REFLECTIONS - Act as a liaison to Strongsville PTA Council to promote and implement Reflections contest at Center.
ROCKIN AT THE REC - Act as a liaison to the Strongsville PTA Council Rockin-at-the-Rec Chair. Help to recruit parent volunteers from Center to chaperone the dances if needed.
SCHOOL BOARD REP - Attends School Board meetings and reports to Center membership at General meetings.
SELF REP - Attends meetings that address bringing behavior and life skills to the district's students. Parents, faculty, and staff members from throughout the district participate in this group. Report information to the Center membership.
SPECIAL EDUCATION REP - Attends school district meetings regarding Special Education issues and reports back to general membership
WEBMASTER - Update and maintain the Center PTA web site with current information. Provide links for items such as minutes from General Meetings, membership forms, events, newsletters, etc.
