Strongsville, OH (May 16, 2016) - Strongsville High School Junior Chris Hritz, a student in the Polaris Career Center Chef Training program, was among a team of five students who recently claimed a national title at the 2016 National ProStart Invitational Culinary Team Competition in Dallas, Texas. This annual event, which is presented by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, provides a platform for students across the United States to showcase their culinary talents in a real world setting.
For the first time ever, Polaris took top honors in the Culinary Team event. During the challenge, the Polaris team had to present a three course meal to a panel of certified chefs and exhibit comprehensive skills in creativity, communication, teamwork, organization, time management, skill level, safety and sanitation. They only had one hour and two butane burners to complete the task. No ovens or electrical appliances were permitted. The students also had to submit all recipes and financial information related to each dish. Their winning three course meal consisted of:
|Appetizer Pan seared scallop, Ohio sweet pea puree, creamed winter corn, applewood bacon jam, espelette pepper oil and tomato ginger relish|
Main Entree Filet mignon, truffle foie gras potato croquette, morel mushrooms, fingerling potatoes, leeks and Swiss chard
Dessert Gianduja chocolate mousse with dark chocolate glaze accompanied by mango Bavarian, almond coconut brittle, orange scented fritter, raspberry foam and mango coulis
