Welcome to my classroom!
I believe that to teach is to…
…foster a love of learning.
…create an atmosphere where learning from our mistakes and asking questions is encouraged.
…generate positive energy by role modeling respect and enthusiasm.
…meet individual learning needs by offering a variety of activities and instructional methods.
… relay high expectations for behavior and achievement through positive words.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
Helpful Hints:MATH FACTS: Mathematical fluency is imperative for success in the upper grades. Students will earn 10 points for demonstrating mastery of their basic facts. (Students will have multiple opportunities to retest if needed.)Strategies:Flashcards - Most students will need to focus on multiplying factors 6 through 9. Separating these cards from the rest of the pile can maximize your practice time.* Encourage your child to answer quickly. Try to move from counting / figuring out the problem each time to memorization or "rapid recall".** Hold your child accountable for practicing every night. Memorizing basic facts is important and will take sustained effort. If needed, try creating a chart to keep them on track. You may even want to graph their results to show their growth over time.Computer programs/apps - These can be an excellent option for students. There are many apps that can be downloaded onto your tablet or phone.* All students have a MobyMax account that can be utilized at home. Math facts are located under the "Fluency" tab.** www.multiplication.com is another option for practicing on your computer.
