Strongsville Middle School’s
6th Grade Teacher Mrs. Kathy Janke
Receives Sister Rita Mackert Teacher of the Year Award

Annual Award from The Strongsville Council of the Knights of Columbus
Recognizes an Exemplary Teacher in the District

Strongsville, OH (May 10, 2018) - Strongsville Middle School sixth grade teacher Mrs. Kathy Janke is the recipient of this year’s Sister Rita Mackert Teacher of the Year Award. This award has been established by the Strongsville Council of the Knights of Columbus to recognize an outstanding teacher in the Strongsville City School district.

Mrs. Janke is a science teacher on the Cruisers Team at SMS. She is completing her 28th year of teaching in Strongsville’s district. Her nomination form included the following comments: “Mrs. Janke makes learning come alive for her students. Her classroom is a space of hands on experiments, with students in the driver’s seat. She guides through inquiry and students are engaged and active in their learning. As a grade level Team Leader, Mrs. Janke ensures her teaching team creates opportunities for students to be recognized, receive assistance when needed, and feel a part of the Strongsville Middle School community.”

“I am honored, humbled and overwhelmed to receive this award from the Knights of Columbus. It truly is a privilege to come to work every day in our District. I believe that ‘success breeds success’ and that it is a teacher's greatest job to help students become successful, and reach their full potential. Like most teachers, I am most excited about helping students have those ‘aha’ moments,” said Mrs. Kathy Janke, Sister Rita Mackert Teacher of the Year award winner.

“Mrs. Janke not only has a passion for teaching, but a passion for kids. Always looking to excel in her craft, Mrs. Janke finds ways to challenge and engage her students with inquiry-based lessons and engages students so that they are giving their best effort each day. Kind-hearted, inviting and approachable, she builds rapport with her students that helps connect learning in and out of the classroom. We are lucky to have Mrs. Janke as part of the Strongsville Middle School family,” said Mr. Steve Deitrick, Strongsville Middle School Principal.

“We are very appreciative of the Knights of Columbus for establishing this annual award to recognize the outstanding teachers in our District. Mrs. Janke is well deserving of this award for her continued commitment to her students and to her colleagues at Strongsville Middle School,” said Cameron Ryba, Superintendent of Strongsville City Schools.

“Raising my family in Strongsville over the last 21 years, I have had the opportunity to meet many extremely talented teachers, administrators, and staff throughout the District. I look forward to the Knights of Columbus Sister Rita Mackert Teacher of the Year presentation, as this annual award is one way of giving back to the schools and recognizing the very talented teachers helping our students learn and grow,” said Joe Cianciolo, Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 10792.
