Remote Learning for Students Will Begin on Monday, April 6 (through May 1)
Based on Ohio Governor DeWine’s order, all school districts in Ohio will be closed through May 1. Students and teachers will be working cooperatively, with the overarching focus to foster remote learning opportunities so student learning continues and we reduce gaps in knowledge as much as possible, so our students are as prepared as they can be for the 2020-21 school year.
Updated remote learning plans and resources may be found HERE, with links updated beginning on Monday, April 6th.
Options and resources for students to engage in educational enrichment opportunities until April 6 may be found HERE. These activities are optional for students and families. Meaning, there will not be assignments that must be completed and turned in upon return on April 6th.
If your student has an Evaluation Team Report (ETR) or Individual Education Program (IEP) scheduled during this extended closure, a member of your team will be in contact with you.
Breakfast/Lunch Options for Families in Need
Breakfast/lunch pick-up option is available for families in need. For the week of April 6, breakfast/lunch distribution will still occur on Monday (4/6) and Wednesday (4/8) at Strongsville Middle School from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. following the same traffic flow for pick-up. Beginning with the week of April 13th, we will eliminate the Monday pickup and go to a Wednesday pickup only. This means breakfast/lunch pickup, after the week of April 6, will occur on April 15th, 22nd, and 29th. The location and hours for pickup will stay the same (SMS / 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.). We will be providing families with food for an entire week. If you find yourself in need of support for your school children, please email Superintendent Ryba (email@example.com) and share the names, schools, and grades of your children and we can provide the meals that are needed.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
The College Board oversees decisions regarding AP testing, not the school district. Based on recent communications from the College Board, AP testing will be completed in an alternative manner. If your child is taking AP courses, his/her teacher will communicate this revised AP testing plan.
College Credit Plus (CCP)
Students enrolled in and attending CCP classes should consult their respective college to determine CCP requirements per the individual guidance/direction from the college. Please click HERE for important information from the SHS School Counselors for students interested in enrolling in the CCP program for the 2020-21 academic year.
Athletic Practices and Games/Meets
An announcement regarding athletic practices and games/meets will be forthcoming. Currently, all athletics are cancelled through May 1st. Coaches are not permitted to hold any practices off-site.
Closure of School District Playgrounds & Fields
As we are all working to do our part to adhere to the Stay at Home order to slow the spread of COVID-19, as a school district, we must also review accessibility to district properties that have traditionally been open to the public. These include our fields, playgrounds, and athletic complexes. The Governor has directed that all playgrounds be closed. All district playgrounds now have signage stating that they are closed until further notice and we ask that all abide by this closure.
Based on additional guidance provided in the order (click HERE), we have been monitoring the use of Pat Catan stadium and Serpentini Field at SMS, as these are both school district properties. Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to close both fields until further notice due to the large numbers of individuals that have been using the fields and failing to adhere to the social distancing requirements.
School Field Trips
All external school field trips have been cancelled for the remainder of the school year. The SHS trip to Germany has been rescheduled to June, 2021.
School-Related Evening Concerts, Activities, Events & Community Use of School Facilities
Based on the order from the Governor and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health to limit large gatherings, we have cancelled/postponed all evening school-related concerts, activities, events, athletics, and/or community rentals through May 1.
SHS Student Work Permits
Please click HERE for information for high school students interested in obtaining work permits.
We have reached out to our vendors to secure back-up dates and/or alternative options. At this point in time, we have not cancelled any events that occur in May and beyond, including prom or commencement. Backup dates are as follows: Prom - Friday, June 26 / Commencement - Sunday, July 12.
Registration for 2020-21 Kindergarten (Friday, 3/13 - Friday, 3/20) has been postponed until further notice. Makeup dates will be announced at a later date.
