Recognizes Two Strongsville Educators

Strongsville Middle School Band Director Chris Chidsey Receives “T in PTA” Award
Muraski Elementary Media Specialist Laurie Beetler Receives “Helping Hands” Award


Strongsville, OH (June 18, 2020) - Strongsville Council PTA recently recognized two Strongsville City Schools educators with their annual awards. Mr. Chris Chidsey, Strongsville Middle School Band Director, received the “T in PTA” Award (previously Educator of the Year Award) for the 2019-20 school year. This award honors an instructor dedicated to the missions and purposes of PTA, and recognizes individuals who promote the welfare of children in and out of the classroom. Mrs. Laurie Beetler, Media Specialist at Muraski Elementary School received the “Helping Hands” Award for the 2019-20 school year. This award is presented to an individual who goes above and beyond for the PTA, has made a positive impact on the lives of children, and is dedicated to the mission of the PTA.

Mr. Chidsey was nominated by a member of the Strongsville Middle School staff and the nomination included some of the following comments, “Mr. Chidsey is our outstanding 7th and 8th grade band director. He is 110% dedicated to the success of our band program, and building a program for our future in Strongsville. He works to plan valuable lessons that reach all our students and their learning styles. He is committed to creating a journey in music, that will allow his students to reach their full potential, and become the best musicians that they can be.  Mr. Chidsey gives the students in our band a strong foundation. He is willing to put the time in and out of the classroom to support the needs of his students, to get better at their craft. He holds a high standard for his students, and they reflect his expectation in the classroom.” 

Mrs. Beetler was nominated by one of her colleagues. Her nomination included some of the following comments, “Mrs. Beetler demonstrates a commitment to all of the students and staff at Muraski. She takes it upon herself to become familiar with students' reading levels and interests so that she can give advice on book recommendations to them when working in the media center. Beyond this, Mrs. Beetler provides exceptional support and services to students in our Makerspace. She is always pursuing and bringing in donations to enhance the opportunities and options for students to be creative in Makerspace. Students are also seen in the media center during their recess and lunch while Mrs. Beetler volunteers her time by providing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) opportunities for students to be creative with Makerspace materials.She depicts the characteristics of a genuine public servant who never stops giving of her time. Mrs. Beetler is always willing to pitch in for the good of our school, regardless of the task.”

They have been recognized for their commitment to teaching and mentoring students, and making a positive impact at their respective schools.
